The Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs), headquartered at National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has released the official notification and invited online applications for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027 for admission to 5-Year Integrated Undergraduate (B.A. LL.B., B.B.A. LL.B., B.Com. LL.B., B.Sc. LL.B., B.S.W. LL.B.) and 1-Year Postgraduate (LL.M.) law degree programmes across 25 participating National Law Universities (NLUs) for the academic session 2027–2028. Additionally, Maharatna and Navratna Public Sector Undertakings (ONGC, IOCL, NTPC, BHEL, PGCIL, Coal India, OIL) utilize CLAT PG 2027 scores for recruiting Legal Executive Trainees and Law Officers. Online registration started on 03 August 2026 and remains open until 31 October 2026 (11:59 PM), with the offline OMR-based entrance examination scheduled for Sunday, 06 December 2026 from 02:00 PM to 04:00 PM.

Pursuant to the Executive Committee and Governing Body meetings of the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs) held on 18 July 2026 and the official Press Release dated 22 July 2026, the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027 will be conducted in Offline Pen-and-Paper (OMR) Mode on Sunday, 06 December 2026 (02:00 PM to 04:00 PM). Online applications are open from 03 August 2026 to 31 October 2026 (11:59 PM) for admission to 25 NLUs, 60+ affiliated universities, and Maharatna PSU Legal Executive cadres.

Syllabus

CLAT UG – English Language (22–26 Questions / ~20%): 450-word contemporary fiction and non-fiction comprehension passages testing main point identification, author tone, contextual vocabulary, idioms, and logical inferences.
CLAT UG – Current Affairs & General Knowledge (28–32 Questions / ~25%): News and journalistic sources covering major national & international developments (2025–2026), Supreme Court landmark judgments, constitutional amendments, awards, international treaties, and contemporary legal history.
CLAT UG – Legal Reasoning (28–32 Questions / ~25%): 450-word passages on legal propositions, statutory enactments, torts, contracts, criminal law, constitutional rights, and public policy—applying rules and principles to novel factual situations without requiring prior legal memorization.
CLAT UG – Logical Reasoning (22–26 Questions / ~20%): 300–450 word critical reasoning passages testing argument structure, assumptions, strengthening/weakening evidence, paradox resolution, syllogisms, and cause-effect relationships.
CLAT UG – Quantitative Techniques (10–14 Questions / ~10%): Class 10th standard mathematical operations based on caselets, bar graphs, pie charts, tables, ratios & proportions, basic algebra, mensuration, profit/loss, and statistical estimation.

Crucial Exam Day Instructions:

• Candidates are permitted entry into the examination hall from 01:00 PM onwards and must be seated by 01:30 PM. No candidate is allowed to enter the test centre after 02:15 PM under any circumstances.
