GST Late Fee Structure & Turnover Capping Rules (Section 47)

To provide relief to small taxpayers, the CBIC introduced rationalized late fee caps under Section 47 of the CGST Act based on turnover slabs:

Interest on Delayed Payment of GST (18% vs 24%)

Interest under GST is mandatory and runs on daily accrual from the day immediately following the due date until the date of payment:

18% per annum (Section 50(1)):Applicable on delayed payment of output tax liability paid through the Electronic Cash Ledger.
24% per annum (Section 50(3)):Applicable when undue or excess Input Tax Credit (ITC) has been claimed and utilized.

QRMP Scheme State-Wise Due Dates

Taxpayers under the Quarterly Return Monthly Payment (QRMP) scheme have bifurcated GSTR-3B due dates:

Category 1 States (Due: 22nd of next month):Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Goa, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar.
Category 2 States (Due: 24th of next month):Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Uttarakhand.
